Today, we went to La Pedrera, originally an arpartment building on passeig de gracia that Gaudi designed. It was pretty cool. The roof had great views, sculptures and slopes, while the inside was full of uniquely shaped rooms, arches and cool light fixtures. There is a free art gallery on the first floor as well. Currently on display there, was an artist from the late 1800’s to 1940 or so. He had paintings, photographs, and textiles.
Yesterday, we took the train to Figueres to check out the Dali Museum. The train ride was about 2 hours and ended up costing 11 euros per ticket per trip, which was rather expensive. Figueres is a small city north of barcelona; there isn’t much there other than the Dali museum. It is the closest city with a train station to Dali’s home town of Cadaques, making it a good location to showcase his work. The museum is in an old theatre, that Dali, himself, and his wife bought to display his work. It was interesting to think that the artist created the path to view his own work. People got to view the art the way that he wanted them to. He was one strange individual and seemed wacked out of his mind with more talent than he knew what to do with. Sofia was impressed with the amount of different styles that his work portrayed. He had paintings that looked very classical as well as modern sculptures. All in all, it was cool to see, however, it may not have been worth the trip. It did not help that a french high school was there at the same time, making it way too crowded. I am much more interested in checking out his home town of Cadaques, which is a small coast town, with beautiful scenery, much of which is displayed in Dali’s paintings.

I am going to try to struggle with the painting on the left a little more. I guess it is hard to paint an entire city scape in just a few hours. With marks that small, the quality of the paint is important, and I don’t think I have achieved the substantial quality I am looking for . I am enjoying the warmth of the light on the right painting, hopefully I get a similar day tomorrow to work on it.

The park got hit by this small storm. Many of the trees were down and limbs were everywhere, I guess the people were not the only ones unprepared for that kind of weather.
We’re just starting the posts for our trip to Rome two weekends ago (finally!). You can read some of them here.
Yesterday, it was supposed to be a cold 50 degrees, but ended up snowing! At first nothing was sticking, but by night, there was a lot of snow on the ground. My classes were canceled this morning too.
Cars could not make it through our neighborhood because we are on a hill. We saw a few people putting chains on their tires to get out of the hill area. I heard that some of the trains stopped running as well, but we had returned home early enough to miss that.
A lot of people were out with their umbrellas taking pictures because it was such a freak occurrence.

It is sad that I have to stop painting here.
